The Duchy Pre-School and Playgroup is a thriving setting that caters for children between the ages of 3 & 5 years old. We offer children the opportunity to learn through play within a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment and aim to work within the framework to ensure equality of opportunity for all children and families. The Duchy Pre-School is run by a volunteer committee and is based firmly in the heart of the community.

The Duchy Pre-School was established 35 years ago by a group of mothers looking for more structured activities for their children. A little later a toddler group was established for those not old enough to attend the playgroup. Since these days, the group has increased in size and today has 50 children on the register.

We currently run 9 playgroup sessions – one being dedicated to 4 year olds during the one or two terms before they start school. Children can attend a lunch club most days which enables us to open four whole day sessions.

The children have structured play in line with OFSTED standards and all classes are run by qualified supervisors. We have a dedicated team of suitably qualified staff who attend regular training courses. We always run at a minimum ratio of 1:8 staff:children, to enable maximum adult input during the children’s play. Parental involvement is encouraged in the day-to-day running of the group. We were last inspected by OFSTED in May 2005 and received a “good” standard. We are also a Quality Assured setting.

In September 2001, the pre-school moved into new premises in the town centre. This was made possible thanks to an award of just over £20,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund. The new premises provide us with fantastic spacious light and airy rooms, and the luxury of not sharing all the space with other organisations.

Most children are entitled to fifteen hours of free sessions a week – funded by Government – please enquire for more details to the Administrator – as above on 01392 881975.

As well as being a good education for you child it is also a good stepping stone for school and contacts between the two establishments are excellent.

We hope you enjoy living in Bradninch and hope that you will use our increasingly popular preschool.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any enquiries.
